Cozumel, Mexico Celebrates2015 Golf Weekend, May 1 – 3, 2015

With Tournament at Nicklaus-Designed Cozumel Country Club

COZUMEL, MEXICO (Feb. 19, 2015) – Golfers from around the globe will gather in Cozumel, May 1 – 3, 2015 for the 7th Annual International Cozumel Island Golf Tournament, a weekend of golf-related activities at Presidente InterContinental Cozumel Resort & Spa culminating with the May 2  tournament on the island’s prestigious Cozumel Country Club.

A handicap index is required as provided by either the USGA, the Mexican Federation of Golf or as verified by the player’s home course golf professional.  An individual net score format will be followed for Men’s A and B Divisions as well as a Ladies’ Division.

The tournament package includes a two-night stay at Presidente InterContinental Cozumel Resort & Spa, May 1 – 3, a welcome cocktail and evening putting tournament, a golfer’s welcome kit, tournament green fee and shared cart fee, transportation to and from the Cozumel Country Club on tournament day, beverages at the golf course, and an awards dinner.  Special prizes will be awarded for the first “Hole in One”, “Longest Drive” and “Closest to the Pin” on designated par-three holes.

The package is priced at $535 U.S. for one golfer, $555 U.S. for one golfer sharing a room with a non-golfer and $630 U.S. for two golfers sharing a room.  Rates for additional nights at Presidente InterContinental Cozumel Resort & Spa start at $179 plus taxes.   Discounts at the property’s Spa are also available.

Designed by The Nicklaus Design Group, the 6,734-yard, par 72 Cozumel Country Club provides challenges for players of every level of skill while preserving the surrounding mangrove marshlands and tropical rainforest, and respecting the natural environment of the site.  Cozumel Country Club was the first golf course in Mexico to earn the designation by Audubon International as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary.  Founded with an ecological commitment, the course blends the requirements for championship golf with consideration for the environmental concerns for the site.

For non-golfing companions, the resort’s on-property, five-star PADI dive center, Scuba Du, offers snorkeling and scuba diving amidst one of the world’s largest coral reef systems.  Deep-sea fishing excursions also are available.  Other activities on the island include swimming with dolphins at Chankanaab National Park and exploring the island’s Mayan ruins, archeological sites and the Ecological Reserve of Punta Sur.  Or, board the Atlantis, an authentic U.S. Coast Guard Certificate submarine which dives 200 feet below the surface for up-close views of coral formations and sea life.
